Washington Continuing Education is designed for licensed drivers seeking to improve their skills and knowledge. This program also qualifies as a driving record point-reduction program in several states (excluding Virginia).

 

Students should confirm with their insurance providers how many hours of education are required for discounts and must complete the course while their license remains valid. Additionally, students are responsible for maintaining a record of their completed course for five years.

What are the age requirements to get a permit in Washington?


In Washington State, individuals can apply for a learner's permit at the age of 15 if they are enrolled in a driver training course. Without such enrollment, the minimum age to obtain a learner's permit is 15½ years.

How do you get your permit in Washington?


To obtain a learner's permit, applicants must first acquire a Washington Driver License (WDL) number by pre-applying online or possessing a valid or expired Washington ID card. After obtaining the WDL number, applicants should visit a driver licensing office with the necessary identification documents and pass a knowledge test.

How long must you hold a permit in Washington?


Permit holders under the age of 18 are required to hold their learner's permit for at least six months before they can apply for an intermediate driver's license.

Who can you drive with when you hold a Washington permit?


While holding a learner's permit, individuals must be accompanied by a licensed driver with at least five years of driving experience, seated beside them in the front passenger seat.

When can a teen earn their license in Washington?


Teens can earn an intermediate driver's license at 16 or 17 years of age after meeting the following requirements: holding a learner's permit for at least six months, completing a driver training course, and passing both the knowledge and driving tests.
