North Carolina Continuing Driver Education Courses

North Carolina Continuing Education is designed for licensed drivers seeking to improve their skills and knowledge. This program also includes benefits such as national recognition by insurance companies for discounts on insurance rates. This program also qualifies as a driving record point-reduction program in several states (excluding Virginia).

Students should confirm with their insurance providers how many hours of education are required for discounts and must complete the course while their license remains valid. Additionally, students are responsible for maintaining a record of their completed course for five years.

North Carolina Teen Supplemental Driver Education Courses

North Carolina Teen Supplemental Driver Education is designed for teens who would like additional information on the the best practices when driving. Our courses are recognized by insurance agencies across the nation. So, if your insurance company offers driver education discounts, you can use the certificate from our course as proof of completion.

What are the age requirements to get a permit in North Carolina?

In North Carolina, teenagers are eligible to apply for a limited learner permit at the age of 15, provided they have completed an approved driver education course and obtained a Driving Eligibility Certificate.

How do you get your permit in North Carolina?

To obtain the permit, applicants must visit an NCDMV driver license office with documents verifying their identity, date of birth, Social Security number, and North Carolina residency. They must also pass required knowledge, road sign recognition, and vision tests.

How long must you hold a permit in North Carolina?

Permit holders are required to hold the limited learner permit for at least six months before advancing to the next licensing level. During this period, they must log a minimum of 60 hours of supervised driving, including at least 10 hours at night.

Who can you drive with when you hold a North Carolina permit?

While holding the permit, teens may drive only under the supervision of a licensed driver who has been licensed for at least five years and is seated beside them in the front seat. For the first six months, driving is permitted between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.; after this period, driving is allowed at any time with a supervising driver.

When can a teen earn their license in North Carolina?

After holding the limited learner permit for six months and completing the required supervised driving hours without any convictions of motor vehicle moving violations or seat belt/mobile telephone infractions, a teen can apply for a limited provisional license. This license allows unsupervised driving between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m., with certain restrictions on passengers and driving times.
