Michigan Continuing Driver Education Courses

Michigan Continuing Education is designed for licensed drivers seeking to improve their skills and knowledge. This program also includes benefits such as national recognition by insurance companies for discounts on insurance rates. This program also qualifies as a driving record point-reduction program in several states (excluding Virginia).

Students should confirm with their insurance providers how many hours of education are required for discounts and must complete the course while their license remains valid. Additionally, students are responsible for maintaining a record of their completed course for five years.

Michigan Teen Supplemental Driver Education Courses

Michigan Teen Supplemental Driver Education is designed for teens who would like additional information on the the best practices when driving. Our courses are recognized by insurance agencies across the nation. So, if your insurance company offers driver education discounts, you can use the certificate from our course as proof of completion.

What are the age requirements to get a permit in Michigan?

Teens are eligible to start Segment 1 of driver education at 14 years and 8 months old. Upon successful completion, they can apply for a Level 1 Learner's License at a Secretary of State office.

How do you get your permit in Michigan?

To obtain a Level 1 Learner's License, applicants must provide proof of identity, residency, and legal presence. They must also pass vision and health screenings. A parent or guardian's signature is required to grant permission.

How long must you hold a permit in Michigan?

Teens must hold the Level 1 Learner's License for at least six months before advancing to the next stage. During this period, they are required to complete a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving, including at least 10 hours at night.

Who can you drive with when you hold a Michigan permit?

While holding a Level 1 Learner's License, teens must be accompanied by a licensed parent, legal guardian, or a designated licensed driver aged 21 or older seated in the front passenger seat. This supervision ensures that new drivers receive guidance and support as they develop their driving skills.

When can a teen earn their license in Michigan?

After fulfilling the requirements of the Level 1 Learner's License, including completing Segment 2 of driver education and maintaining a clean driving record, teens can apply for a driving skills test. Upon passing this test, they are issued a Level 2 Intermediate License, granting them unsupervised driving privileges with certain restrictions.
