Kansas Continuing Driver Education Courses

Kansas Continuing Education is designed for licensed drivers seeking to improve their skills and knowledge. This program also includes benefits such as national recognition by insurance companies for discounts on insurance rates. This program also qualifies as a driving record point-reduction program in several states (excluding Virginia).

Students should confirm with their insurance providers how many hours of education are required for discounts and must complete the course while their license remains valid. Additionally, students are responsible for maintaining a record of their completed course for five years.

Kansas Teen Supplemental Driver Education Courses

Kansas Teen Supplemental Driver Education is designed for teens who would like additional information on the the best practices when driving. Our courses are recognized by insurance agencies across the nation. So, if your insurance company offers driver education discounts, you can use the certificate from our course as proof of completion.

What are the age requirements to get a permit in Kansas?

In Kansas, individuals are eligible to apply for an instruction permit, also known as a learner's permit, starting at the age of 14. This permit allows young drivers to gain supervised driving experience as part of the state's Graduated Driver's License (GDL) program.

How do you get your permit in Kansas?

To obtain a learner's permit, applicants must present acceptable proof of identity and pass a vision examination. For those under 16, parental approval is required. Additionally, applicants must pass written and driving examinations, unless they provide a certificate of completion from a driver education course.

How long must you hold a permit in Kansas?

Permit holders under 17 years of age must hold their instructional permit for at least one year from the date it was issued or until their 17th birthday, whichever occurs first. During this period, they are required to complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice, including 10 hours at night, documented by an affidavit signed by a parent or guardian.

Who can you drive with when you hold a Kansas permit?

While holding a learner's permit, individuals may drive only when accompanied by a licensed adult aged 21 or older. The supervising adult must be seated in the front passenger seat to provide guidance and ensure safety during driving practice.

When can a teen earn their license in Kansas?

After meeting the necessary requirements, including holding the permit for the required duration and completing the supervised driving hours, teens can apply for a restricted driver's license at a minimum age of 16. This license allows for unsupervised driving with certain restrictions, such as limitations on nighttime driving and passenger numbers, as outlined in the state's GDL program.
