Alaska Continuing Driver Education Courses

Alaska Continuing Education is designed for licensed drivers seeking to improve their skills and knowledge. This program also includes benefits such as national recognition by insurance companies for discounts on insurance rates. This program also qualifies as a driving record point-reduction program in several states (excluding Virginia).

Students should confirm with their insurance providers how many hours of education are required for discounts and must complete the course while their license remains valid. Additionally, students are responsible for maintaining a record of their completed course for five years.

Alaska Teen Driver Education Courses

Alaska Teen Driver Education is designed for teens who would like additional information on the the best practices when driving. Our courses are recognized by insurance agencies across the nation. So, if your insurance company offers driver education discounts, you can use the certificate from our course as proof of completion.

What are the age requirements to get a permit in Alaska?

In Alaska, individuals are eligible to apply for an instruction permit starting at the age of 14. This permit allows young drivers to begin practicing their driving skills under specific conditions.

How do you get your permit in Alaska?

To obtain an instruction permit, applicants must visit a local Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office and complete several steps. These include passing a written knowledge test, providing a completed application form (Form D1), submitting a parental consent form (Form 433) if under 18, presenting proof of relationship to the parent or guardian signing the consent, passing a vision test, and paying the required fee.

How long must you hold a permit in Alaska?

There is no specified minimum duration for holding this permit, and the instruction permit is valid for two years from the date of issuance and may be renewed once if necessary.

Who can you drive with when you hold a Alaska permit?

While holding an instruction permit, the permittee must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old, has at least one year of driving experience in the type of vehicle being operated, and is seated in the front passenger seat at all times during driving.

When can a teen earn their license in Alaska?

Teens can apply for a provisional license at the age of 16, provided they have held an instruction permit for a minimum of six months without any traffic violations. The provisional license comes with certain restrictions, such as limitations on driving hours and passenger allowances, to help new drivers gain experience safely.
